Virtual Program:
Facilitating Strategic Planning in Nonprofits
Great Planning Facilitators Can Customize the Planning Process
One of the biggest complaints about strategic planning is that it produces
plans that sit untouched, collecting dust on shelves. One of the biggest
reasons is that the planning process did not suit the nature and needs
of the organization. Instead, the process suited the limitations of the
facilitator.
There is no one model of planning to use all the time with every nonprofit
everywhere. A great facilitator knows several different models and how
to customize each as needed. She knows how to cultivate strong participation
of planners and how to guide them to robust strategic thinking. She knows
how to bring them to consensus to produce relevant and realistic plans.
A great nonprofit strategic planning facilitator has more than people
skills and knows more than process skills. She also knows how nonprofit
organizations work, the major functions within them and how they are connected.
That knowledge ensures a planning process that is based on sound strategic
thinking about the realities inside and outside of the organization.
This highly accessible, state-of-the-art program guides and supports
you to develop strong strategic planning facilitation skills and organizational
skills to produce relevant and realistic strategic plans that get implemented.
To understand what we consider having strong knowledge in nonprofit facilitation,
see the topics in this program’s
Syllabus.
"Even our most seasoned leaders gained valuable new insights.
The way the material was organized and presented helped attendees understand
how to work with groups more effectively in designing strategic planning
to meet their unique needs."
