CDI Programs

What is a CDI Program?

A CDI program is a virtual, interactive, cohort-based learning activity to help you build new skills and abilities. In contrast, a CDI virtual course is a self-paced, virtual learning activity to help you generate new knowledge about a specific topic. CDI provides programs on Organizational Consulting, Facilitating Strategic Planning and Facilitating Board Development. Programs are specialized for for-profits and nonprofits.

Typical Components of a Program Hosted on CDI

Each program typically includes a certain number of modules and each module is about a subtopic in the overall topic of the program. Each module typically includes the following three components:

  1. New content from readings with highly practical guidelines, tools and templates. The new content is followed by a post-assessment of the learner's new learning from that particular content.
  2. Then a highly interactive, virtual seminar among faculty and participants to share questions, answers and real-life situations to customize the new content to the nature, needs and applications of the learners.
  3. Then a close and confidential, virtual, (Action Learning-based) peer coaching group meeting to help each learner reflect on a) fellow learners' thoughtful questions about the content and b) how the learner could apply the content in a current, real-life situation.

Meanwhile, throughout a program, each learner answers the questions for reflection in the learner's Learning and Development Journal for CDI Programs.

CDI Certifications

What is a CDI Certification?

Certification is evidence of new skills and abilities and is granted for having completed a CDI programs. (This is in contrast to a Certificate, which is granted from having completed certain series of virtual courses. See CDI Courses and Associated Certificates.)

Typical Requirements for Certification

Requirements for Certification are specified in each program. They typically include having:

  1. Completed the pre-assessment near the beginning of the program.
  2. Actively participated in the virtual seminars, peer coaching group meetings and email exchanges in the program.
  3. Completed the assessments of the readings in each module in the program.
  4. Submitted the Learning Journal to faculty for private review (the Journal will not be shared with anyone else).
  5. Completed the post-assessment near the end of the program

"Among my Dakota and Absaroke people is a saying that I can only really translate into English using a double negative: 'I do not remember a time when I did not know him.' It is intended to point out and compliment one who has had a good, significant impact on another, an impact so great that one's history is changed. That is what I say to you, Carter, I do not remember when I did not know you."
