Virtual Program:
Facilitating Board Development in Business
Board Performance Is Not a Matter of Board Conformance
The forgotten leverage point for improvement in a business is the Board
of Directors. An effective Board can make a huge difference in the performance
of the business. Yet, far too often, the Board is viewed as a necessary
evil – a requirement of corporate law. In contrast, the wise CEO
views the Board as an extremely valuable asset to the company and takes
full advantage of its members' wisdom and participation.
Boards are at their best when they have strong internal Board operations.
When Boards struggle, it is far more a matter of poor internal operations
than of the Board’s non-conformance to various laws and regulations.
Yet, much of the literature about Boards is in regard to that conformance.
The goal of this program is to equip you with the necessary knowledge
and skills with Board operations to guide and support Board members to
improve the overall quality of the Board's internal operations. You might
be an external or internal consultant, a Board member or a CEO. This program
is for you!
The focus of the program is primarily on Boards of Directors in the United
States. However, the majority of the topics pertain to best practices
in Boards around the world. To understand what we mean by the phrase "Board
operations," see the topics in this program’s
Syllabus.
